Match Report

Clydebank escaped from Lesser Hampden with a point after Tony Moy's late equaliser earned a 1-1 draw against Queen's Park Strollers.

The Bankies were fortunate to avoid defeat against a lively Strollers side who enjoyed much of the better play and looked the more dangerous team for long periods of the match.

Queen's Park began positively and were first to impose themselves on the contest, although Clydebank created the opening chance when Moy fired narrowly over the crossbar from 18 yards. The inside-right remained a threat and soon came close again, directing a header from an Alan McLeish cross just off target.

The home side suffered a setback midway through the first half when Pollatschek was forced to leave the field with a leg injury. Rather than disrupting their rhythm, however, the loss appeared to galvanise the Strollers.

Their efforts were rewarded after 37 minutes when centre-forward Jimmy Mulgrew latched on to a through pass and drove a fine shot beyond Jim Brown to give Queen's Park a deserved lead.

Clydebank struggled to gain a foothold during much of the first half and went into the interval trailing by a goal.

The visitors improved after the restart and gradually began to apply more pressure around the Queen's Park penalty area. As the second half wore on, the Bankies enjoyed the greater share of possession and repeatedly tested the home defence.

Goalkeeper John Taylor proved difficult to beat and produced a series of excellent saves to preserve his side's advantage. However, with twelve minutes remaining, Clydebank finally found a way through.

McLeish supplied the cross and Moy rose to head home the equaliser, rewarding the visitors for their persistence and bringing them level at 1-1.

Queen's Park were beginning to tire by this stage, but Taylor continued to perform admirably to ensure the home side did not surrender the point altogether.

In the end, a draw was probably the best outcome Clydebank could have hoped for after being second best for much of the afternoon. Moy once again played a leading role for the Bankies, while Archie Rankin impressed at left-half. For the Strollers, goalkeeper Taylor and centre-half Fleming were their standout performers.
