Biography

Gerry signed for Clydebank in early 1973 due to the vacuum created by the sale of long-term goalkeeper Mike McDonald to Stoke City.

The Bankies had tried youth stopper Stewart Forsyth between the sticks and then a young Ronnie Lowrie, who would go on to be Alloa's keeper for many years, kept goal for two games.

A certain Jim Gallacher became the third keeper to be tried and it looked likely that he would be the answer to the Bankies problems. However a handful of games in and Jim broke his toe leaving the Bankies with a real problem.

Gerry Gallacher was languishing in the East Stirlingshire reserves despite playing regularly with Albion Rovers previously. Jack Steedman made the signing with the necessary urgency.

Gerry would play five times for the club, but a costly mistake against Clyde would see him lose his place in the side as the Bankies tried yet another Junior trialist.

By this time Jim Gallacher had regained his fitness and his place in the team was restored and the Bankies didn't need another goalkeeper for around another 20.
years.

As for Gerry he moved to Stranraer on a free transfer at the end of the season, spending a couple of years at Stair Park. He subsequently had spells abroad, but also had another year at Albion Rovers later in his career.
