Clydebank secured two valuable league points with a hard-earned 3-2 victory over Queen's Park Strollers at Kilbowie Park.
The match was a closely contested affair throughout, with neither side able to establish clear control for long periods. In the end it took a dramatic late penalty from Tony Moy to separate the teams and hand the Bankies a welcome win.
Moy had already given Clydebank the advantage during the first half, his goal ensuring the home side went into the interval with a narrow 1-0 lead.
Although the scoreline remained in Clydebank's favour, the second half saw the Bankies produce some of their best football of the evening. Their attacking play was brisk and purposeful, and they repeatedly tested the Queen's Park defence with a series of dangerous forward moves.
The visitors owed much to their goalkeeper, whose display kept them firmly in contention. Time and again he denied the Clydebank forwards, earning warm applause from the supporters for a succession of fine saves.
One of the most encouraging aspects of the performance for the home side was the contribution of Alex Stewart. The 21-year-old, recently signed from Maryhill Juniors, was making his first Combined Reserve League appearance for Clydebank and impressed with his intelligent and constructive play in attack.
Despite Clydebank's pressure, Queen's Park remained in the contest and managed to draw level, setting up a tense finish.
With the match seemingly heading towards a draw, the decisive moment arrived in the closing stages. Clydebank were awarded a penalty just before full time and Moy stepped forward to take responsibility. The inside-forward made no mistake, driving the ball home to secure the winning goal and complete a personal double.
It was a victory that Clydebank badly needed as they continued their efforts to improve their position in the league table, and the late drama ensured the supporters left Kilbowie satisfied.
