Match Report

Clydebank recorded an impressive 3-2 victory over Second Division side Berwick Rangers in an entertaining midweek friendly at Kilbowie.

The home side took the lead after 19 minutes when Tony Moy was brought down just outside the penalty area. Jimmy Hodgson took the resulting kick and, although Berwick goalkeeper Junior got a hand to the ball, he was unable to prevent it finding the net.

Berwick thought they had equalised almost immediately when Stewart put the ball in the net, but the effort was ruled out for offside.

The remainder of the first half was evenly contested, with both sides playing attractive football but creating few clear-cut chances. As a result, Clydebank carried their slender advantage into the interval.

The Bankies strengthened their position seven minutes after the restart. Tony Moy, who had won the free-kick for the opening goal, drove a low shot into the corner of the net to make it 2-0.

Four minutes later Moy struck again. Joe Rankin delivered a cross from the right wing and the inside-left dived to head the ball home, giving Clydebank a commanding three-goal lead.

Berwick, however, refused to concede defeat. Former Celtic player Bobby Young sparked a dramatic comeback when he beat Wilson with an 18-yard effort. Straight from the restart, Young broke clear again and fired home from close range to reduce the deficit to a single goal.

The visitors piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser, but Clydebank defended resolutely and held on to secure a narrow but deserved victory over their Second Division opponents.
