Match Report

Clydebank's season ended on the dismal note it had struck so many times over the last few months, with a drab derby encounter against Dumbarton.

Both sides struggled to find anything resembling form and the goalless draw left Bankies in a very disappointing 10th place, and meant the Kilbowie fans had seen fewer than two goals a game at home this season.

To be fair, the two keepers distinguished themselves, but they must have been thankful for the exercise on a bitterly cold day.

Big Blair Millar, who has returned to something like his earlier scoring form in recent weeks, failed to catch the eye and Bankies never really looked capable of scoring.

Young striker Davie Jones, who linked so well with Campbell McKeown against East Stirling last week, inspired some effort from colleagues Dave Houston and Gerry Ronald, but there was never sufficient support from the rest of this lacklustre side.

Jones did hit the Dumbarton post, but that was the only time that Donald Hunter, standing in for the injured Tom Carson, was beaten.

He made several fine saves from Houston efforts before Jim Gallacher saved Bankies at the other end with some confident handling:

Dumbarton striker Raymond Blair was the most exciting talent on display, but even he failed to lift this game from the depths of mediocrity.

Many of the players must be thankful that a season which promised so much is at last over. So many disappointing performances have slashed attendances and Saturday's derby attracted a paltry 500.

Queen of the South had three times that number in the Second Division. Just two seasons ago Bankies missed promotion to the Premier League on goal difference. On this display, they will be waiting a long time to see the top sides again at Kilbowie.
