Match Report

Clydebank Press

This match was switched to nearby Dam Park, as the new pitch at Somerset Park was not ready. As there are no floodlights, the kick off had to be brought forward by 45 minutes.

Any hopes Second Division Clydebank might have entertained about repeating last week's win over First Division Ayr lasted exactly four minutes..

In that short space of time big George MCLEAN had sized up the opposition, missed a sitter from six yards and then headed home a tremendous goal, Clydebank became an overworked team with their defence being tormented by a United attack

Keeper Mike McDonald became a hero as he produced brilliant saves to halt the Ayr attack but even he had to admit defeat in the 20th minute. Right back Mitchell miskicked and the ball rolled to INGRAM. The Ayr centre took swipe at the ball sending it spinning in the opposite direction - but into the corner of the net.

There was no such luck about Ayr's third goal in the 37th minute when GRAHAM raced in on a Doyle pass to score from 10 yards.

Ayr's play in the second half never possessed the same kind of urgency but Clydebank still had no answer to the situation and Delaney upended Ingram to give McLean his second goal in the 70th minute from the penalty spot

INGRAM added the finishing touches in the 82nd minute when he combined with Doyle before pushing the ball home from close range.
