Match Report

A well taken double by the lightning-quick Gerry Colgan helped the experimental Clydebank line-up to a well-deserved victory over their English guests at Kilbowie Park on Sunday.

Bankies stamped their authority right from the start , with debutants Dave McCulloch and Jimmy Given in midfield, and Doug Brown, up front, all showing up well.

After close things from Blair Millar and Brown it was Colgan who put themone in front in the 17th minute.

In an amazing goalmouth scramble the ex-Queens Park man’s first two attempts were blocked by the keeper but he managed to write himself in to poke home the rebound.

Port Vale hit back strongly and the powerful Sprasson was just too high with a vicious shot from outside the box.

Jim Gallacher then thrilled the home fans with two spectacular stops from Wright.

But Bankies were always in control and it was “Mr Comeback,” Billy Fanning, who set up their second counter. He sent a lovely through ball into the path of Millar who shot home unchallenged from 12 yards.

Minutes later Millar should have scored again when he was put clear by Given, but his effort struck the post.

But it was the determined Colgan who made sure of a home win two minutes after the break. He nipped in smartly to drive the ball between Connaughton’s legs after a horrible error by defender Wilkinson.

Bankies relaxed a little, and in the 56th minute Baillie reduced the leeway with a low shot from the edge of the box.
