Match Report

Clydebank continued their encouraging run of form with a dramatic late equaliser at Links Park, snatching a point against Montrose just two minutes from time.

In truth, the 1–1 scoreline was a fair reflection of a lively and well-contested encounter, one of the more entertaining games seen at Links Park in recent weeks. While neither side showed much in the way of clinical finishing, both teams displayed intent and energy throughout.

The game remained goalless at the break, but it certainly wasn’t for lack of endeavour. The play moved swiftly from end to end, with both keepers being called into action, though far less often than they might have been given the number of promising moves. Time and again, attacks from both sides broke down with overhit crosses or misplaced final balls, and many opportunities fizzled out with the ball ending up in touch rather than in the net.

Clydebank’s defence stood up well for much of the match, but they were finally undone in the 78th minute. Bankies keeper Sandy McLachlan did well to parry a shot from Montrose’s Jimmy Kemp, but couldn’t clear the danger. As defenders scrambled to cover, Falconer pounced on the loose ball to put the home side ahead.

The final 15 minutes sparked a burst of late drama, with Montrose briefly threatening to add a second. But Clydebank weren’t finished. Roared on by a noisy away support—complete with trumpet fanfares and rhythmic chants of "Bankies"—they mounted a late push.

Their persistence was rewarded in the 88th minute when Joe Rankin, who had been industrious all afternoon at inside-right, found himself in the right place amid a crowded box to stab the ball home from close range and level the match.

For Montrose, Strathdee was their standout performer, combining solid defending with effective forward play. Kemp enjoyed one of his better home outings, and Dickson came close to scoring on several occasions.

From Clydebank’s perspective, McLachlan was again impressive between the sticks, while the defence in front of him was composed and reliable. Frank Russell led the line with aggression, but it was Rankin who stole the headlines with his vital late strike.

This result keeps Clydebank’s momentum going as they continue to display form more akin to a mid-table side. After a torrid start to the campaign, the Bankies are now showing growing resilience as their debut senior season progresses.
