Match Report

Clydebank Press

The 'Bankies got the shock of their lives when they saw the brand of football near-neighbour Juniors Yoker attacked them with on Monday night in this challenge game.

From being one goal down, the Whe-ho pulled ahead, but two late goals from the Bankies dumped any hopes they had of winning.

After the match, Clydebank director-manager, Jack Steedman said: "You were the best team lads. You should have won."

After near misses at both ends, Clydebank's trialist right winger scored a good goal on the half-hour mark.

This proved the only goal of the first half.

Just before this, Clydebank left back Danny Gray had to be assisted from the field with a leg injury. John McGunnigle substituted.

Five minutes into the second half, and Yoker got their equaliser. Danny Strain placed the ball well away from the 'keeper with a left foot shot.

It was no surprise when, 15 minutes, later, the same player put the Whe-ho two up. He intercepted a free-kick from Fallon to the goalkeeper, and poked the ball into the empty net.

At the other end, Clydebank's trialist missed a great chance to equalise, when he ballooned the ball over after good work by Caskie and McGunnigle.

Jimmy Caskie brought the 'Bankies back on level terms, when he lobbed the ball over Johnny Harkness.

The winning goal, which was also the best goal of the match, came from substitute John McGunnigle four minutes later.

Taking a pass from the left, he outfoxed the Yoker defence with a nice body-swerve, and shot home at the near post.

The Yoker half backs came up to try their luck, and Alan McNab was left speechless when the trialist 'keeper brilliantly touched his header over the bar, when it seemed certain to go in the net.

Just after that, John Bagdonas, who had moved up for a corner, let fly with a snap-shot. They're still trying to find the ball somewhere in the Drumry and Drumchapel areas.

Yoker's trialist outside right played well, as did the three trialists the 'Bankies had out.
