Match Report

Sunday Post

This one hung in balance throughout. Each side had had periods of ascendancy, and each missed chances, with Bankies the bigger sinners.

Queens had foul luck in not breaking the deadlock near the end when Kerr hit a rocket free from 25 yards which smacked against a post.

Bankies almost stole victory in the last minute when McLean headed off the line with Ball well beaten.

Queens' top men were McLean, McChesney, Law and Kerr while McDonald, Hay, Fallon, Love and Caskie did well for the home side.

Evening News and Star

Queen of the South, fielding the same side which won at Stirling, returned another good result at Clydebank on Saturday, when they fully deserved their shore of the points in a goalless draw.

Indeed, with a bit of luck, they might have brought back both points, for skipper Jimmy Kerr hammered the upright from a free kick with keeper McDonald looking on helplessly.

A crowd of 1200 thoroughly enjoyed a fast, entertaining match, voted by many as the best seen at Kilbowie Park this season.

They certainly had plenty to shout about, and the only failing on both sides. was the lack of finishing punch to round off some excellent approach work.

Queens' new look team looked really good until the forwards reached the 18-yard line where most of the attacks broke down for lack of a subtle touch among the inside forwards.

Jackson, the former Palmerston favourite, was a spectator, having been dropped by The Bankies for this game but how both sides could have benefited from his ability to prize open the soundest defence.

The Dumfries defence never looked in danger at any time - and easily contained the Clydebank forwards, but up front only Lex Law and McIntyre gained full marks.

They provided plenty of chances for their colleagues, but McDonald was never seriously troubled. His only worries came from wing-halves Kerr and McChesney, both of whom had good tries rather luckily saved by the 'keeper.
